Green Code - How and Why?
The running software is estimated to emit around 2% of global CO2 emissions, thus, the mere execution of the software is now on par with that of the airline industry. Energy consumption is the biggest factor in the CO2 emissions of running software.
therefore, Nine, IT Branchen, Energy Cluster Denmark, and Roskilde University launched a hackathon on Green Algorithms (https://nine.dk/hackathon/), where software developers compete on providing the most energy-efficient solution.
In this talk, we will tell how it went and give some first insights on what we learned.
